Who is the "he", who became light? From the last verse the second use of the word "he" appears to point back to the Spirit of Eloheem, as if God's Spirit is a separate entity from Eloheem. It also appears that because of him becoming so, there is some source of light, perhaps the sun has reached a critical mass and has begun emitting electromagnetic waves within the visible spectrum, thus things on the surface of the Earth would began to stir. It's interesting that "he" becomes what the spoken word commands be done. It's as if the Spirit himself, in a very intimate way, literally experiences the creation, becoming what is commanded. I am not sure how to express this in English words, but we see this (he became so) throughout the rest of the creation process, could this have something to do with the name I AM THAT I AM, declared to Moses from the Angel in the burning bush on Mt Sinai? If "he" refers back to the spirit spoken of in 1:2, then the spirit has become or is becoming a source of light upon the earth herself, or he is now located at the position of the sun, or both on the earth and at the sun.

Now it is certainly possible that God could instantly create all the elements we find today on the earth, but could he have used other stars to cook them up, such as lead, gold, silver, carbon, oxygen, nitrogen, silicone, iron, etc.. This would then mean that other stars had already existed, and that some stars, and thus other light sources might be visible from earth. However it is possible that the dust within our solar system, at this point is too thick for distance stare light to reach the earth. I would assume that whatever was needed to form the moon, such as a collision between two large planet sized bodies, has occurred. Perhaps the moon has not yet fully formed, but is the debris from such a huge collision, trapped in the Earth's gravitational field. This debris is slowly gravitating toward one source, thus the moon is in the process of  formation. Note too that this debris from a massive collision might also block any other light sources, from the earth's perspective.
