Pray To Father
Not To Men
Matthew 6:5
Or Father wants us to pray to him and only him, not anyone else. Again it might seem like a good idea to allow one's prayers to be heard by others around us, in order to allow our light to shine on them. But the question arises once again: are we praying to God or are we seeking attention from other men? If we want to show God our faith (trust) in his ability to help us when we need that help, then we need to trust in him and not in other men. Finally we need not say the same thing over and over again, such as is done with a mantra or with beads. Rather we should pray without doubting waiting patiently for God to provide whatever it is we ask in accord with his will, at the proper time.
But if any of you lack wisdom, you should pray to God, who will give it to you; because God gives generously and graciously to all. 6 But when you pray, you must believe and not doubt at all. Whoever doubts is like a wave in the sea that is driven and blown about by the wind. 7 If you are like that, unable to make up your mind and undecided in all you do, you must not think that you will receive anything from the Lord.James 1:5-7 GNB
Now that does not imply that we can't ask for the same thing on a new day. For example, we need food and water to sustain our physical bodies, and we can ask our Father for such and he will provide it. More importantly we need spiritual food, which is God's Word every day, this in order to gain life everlasting. We also need the ability to digest that spiritual food, rather, to understand it and to apply it in our lives. These need to be requested from our Father in the heavens, and when he provides it, we are obligated to show him appreciation by giving thanks as well. We should do all this on our own, when in private as one body of individuals or as one person. It might seem senseless to pray for something that our Father already knows we need, but by our prayer we are actually showing our Father that we love him, and depend on him to provide us with what we need. This becomes especially true if we are doing it in private where there are no onlookers.
